Trucking Insurance Oregon

FMCSA & ODOT-Compliant Coverage for Oregon Motor Carriers, Owner-Operators & Freight Brokers

Trucking & Transportation Insurance for Oregon Carriers

Oregon's trucking and transportation industry moves timber, agricultural products, manufactured goods, and consumer freight across the Pacific Northwest and beyond. But operating a commercial motor vehicle in Oregon means navigating a complex web of federal FMCSA and state ODOT insurance requirements that go well beyond a standard commercial auto policy. A missing MCS-90 endorsement, an inadequate cargo limit, or a gap in bobtail coverage can leave your business — and your operating authority — exposed.

Prineville Insurance works with a network of more than 50 carriers, including specialty trucking markets that offer competitive rates for Oregon-based fleets. Our agents understand FMCSA filing requirements, ODOT registration, and the specific coverage needs of motor carriers operating in Central Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. We handle the FMCSA and ODOT insurance filings on your behalf — so you can focus on moving freight, not paperwork.

What's Covered

Primary Liability (MCS-90)

Required for all for-hire motor carriers operating in interstate commerce. The MCS-90 endorsement provides a federal guarantee of minimum liability coverage — $750,000 CSL for most freight, up to $5,000,000 for hazardous materials. FMCSA and ODOT filing is handled by your insurer.

Motor Truck Cargo

Covers loss or damage to freight in your care, custody, and control while in transit. Required by virtually every shipper and freight broker as a contract condition. Limits should reflect the maximum value of freight you carry in a single load — review annually as your business mix evolves.

Physical Damage

Covers your owned or leased trucks and trailers against collision, fire, theft, and other perils. Can be written on an actual cash value or agreed value basis — agreed value eliminates depreciation disputes at claim time.

Bobtail / Non-Trucking Liability

Covers owner-operators when driving their truck for personal use — going home after a delivery, repositioning between loads — when not under dispatch and not covered by the carrier's primary policy. Typically $30–$50 per month and essential for leased owner-operators.

General Liability

Covers bodily injury and property damage claims that occur at your terminal, loading dock, or business premises — not covered by your commercial auto policy. Recommended for any trucking company with a physical facility.

Workers' Compensation

Required in Oregon for any employer with one or more employees. Covers medical expenses and lost wages for drivers and other employees injured on the job. Oregon requires a Notice of Compliance filing with the Workers' Compensation Division in addition to obtaining coverage.
